Hello IS listeners.

Dj4 and I would like to thank everyone for supporting our show over the past three years. We’ve enjoyed broadcasting international hits and interviewing some great local and international talent. As of January 1st, 2009, Import Showoff has been off the air as DJ4 and I pursue new opportunities.

Special thanks to CJSF for allowing us to hijack their FM tower, and a big shout-out to Irex our talent coordinator for his unfailing hard work.

To stay up-to-date on international urban music, I suggest visiting World Hip Hop Market. You may even see written contributions from me there at some point.

Best of luck to everyone!

Vancouver’s own Evil Ebenezer has a new EP out called “The Wanderer”. Not coincidentally, he’ll be performing with Bliss n Eso this coming week. Peep this vid from ‘06 to get a feel:

Shout out to our guest three weeks ago, Young Sin, for the 411.

I’ve been busy in-studio the last month or so if you’re wondering why this space is kinda stagnant lately. Thanks for your support!

Pacific Division | IAM | Estelle

Writing by phanyxx on Sunday, 19 of October , 2008 at 5:04 pm

Me.

Hey hey hey,

Damn homie. When gear starts to shut down on you it’s tough to keep the show rollin’, but thanks to YouTube I was able to this past Friday. While I was searching tracks out, I remembered a song I’d heard a few years back by Blak Twang featuring a girl we all know today as Estelle. Back then she was known as Est’Elle, the was the track - Trixstar. No video for that one, but peep ‘Thumbz Up” from last year. UK OG fo’ sho’:

Here’s a classic joint from IAM. “Petit Frere” is a perfect example of oldschool French hip hop, and the video is a story about an angry young dude.

What’s with all this “Joe the Plumber” and “Ed the Dairyman” bullshit the yankee politicos have been spreading over the past week? I guess they realised that terms like “Joe Sixpack” weren’t endearing, they were insulting. The best Obama endorsement I’ve seen so far is on Rick Ross’ website. Lovin’ the moobs on this guy. Check it:

MOOBS!

With a new album on the way, and recent honours at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors show, Naughty by Nature (sans Kay Gee?) are on people’s minds once again. I’m a huge NBN fan, so I’m looking forward to their upcoming album. I also can’t stop thinking about how much VinRock looks like his cousin, Mike Tyson. In the meantime, here’s an awesome remake of OPP by a group called Pacific Division. (Beware of the annoying intro I was too lazy to chop off):

Pacific Division - OPP Remake

Peace out for now.

Sorry for all the technical difficulties on this show. Hopefully we won’t run into that kind of thing again in the future… Here’s a rough playlist (unordered):

Sway ft. Akon - Silver & Gold (UK)
Nitro Microphone Underground - Special Force (Japan)
Crown J - Fly Boy (South Korea)
Blak Twang - Kik Off (UK)
Blak Twang ft. Estelle - Trixstar (UK)
Wax Tailor - Positively Inclined (France)
Wiley - Wearing my Rolex (UK)
Madcon - Beggin’ (Norway)
Dizzee Rascal ft. Bun B - Where da G’s (UK)

We also played a tonne of singles off of RG’s mixtape: Inspiration is a Dream. Best of luck to RG as he comes up in the game. Visit his website for more info…

Xenophobia | Racism

Writing by phanyxx on Wednesday, 15 of October , 2008 at 8:28 am

If I were an American, I would be pissed. I would be livid that, in a country so full of opportunity, such blatant ignorance and xenophobia exists. (Although Canada is not immune either)

There are so many recent examples: From the woman at a political rally that labeled Obama as an “Arab” and “Muslim”; to the man that said he would never buy a car made by “Gooks”; to the signs on midwest lawns that read “Vote Right, Vote White; to the Busta Rhymes penning a track about “A-rab money”; to people writing in to a website recently to complain about a cartoon of a “terrorist” (it was clearly a ninja).

Most Americans are decent, intelligent people, but increasingly, it’s getting harder to notice this positive majority through the racket the zealots and extremists are making. Yeah, I’d be embarrassed to be lumped in with that crowd. A special thanks to the American listeners that have embraced our show. Spread the word, and we’ll keep spreading the international vibes!

Politics and Hip Hop collide. Good article…

I’ll be updating more again soon. For now I’m digging through the last 6 shows and mixing up a podcast meteor shower. Impact in a few days.

Killer show this last Friday. Big shout out to our special guests for an entertaining hour of freestyles and Q&A. Also, thanks to everyone that tuned in (we hit a new record of people streaming the show worldwide).

I’ve already got the podcast done, but I’ll be releasing it later this week with a whole batch of shows from this fall. Watch this space!
